The Madness Continues

Blaise and his Military

“The Crisis is Over”

These are the words of Blaise Compaore, the nation’s president, right before the 1st major rioting by the army. They came out, guns blazing, looting shops, stealing cars, and much worse. We were very fortunate to have spent the evening with some very dear friends and neighbors. As the gunshots could be heard outside, we had a nice meal, watched “the Incredibles” and kept sane.

Because of the rioting, the shopkeepers followed suit 2 days later, burning buildings and public buses.
We were assured, once again, that “the crisis is over” after Blaise sacked his government and gave in to nearly all the demands of the rioters.  Is it really?

But today the police shot their guns in the air, demanding more pay. (They were much more controlled than the army, staying in their own compound), and now I just heard that the army is now out in the street once again! I do not hear any shooting (I’m getting good at identifying that sound)… yet…

And this Saturday and Sunday there are more planned protests.

Please just keep us and this nation in prayer!  Here are some prayer points:

  1. Pray for our safety and the safety of the other missionaries here.  We have not been targeted and have not felt unsafe, but please pray!
  2. Pray for the Christian police, shopkeeper, military and government officials, that they would keep a strong testimony throughout it all.
  3. Pray that God would keep the doors to the Gospel open in this country so that we can continue to spread His love (the only permanent solution to these issues).

Still no sounds of gunfire.  We might still sleep well tonight…

    Dear Joel an Heidi,
Enjoyed the video and seeing the work that you are doing there in Burkino Faso. The children are so wonderful to see in their everyday life. Their smiles are infectious. Andrea is preparing to come and excited about the trip and the team from Newspring that she will be working with. Bless you both and your boys for being there and sharing the Love of God! We love you! Veda and the whole Byers Family :)

I “amen” what Tammy shared! When you chart it out you can see the way that the Lord took a small seed and caused it to grow. Only the Father knows what is in store as you keep sowing faithfully. That 1,000,000 child mark by 2020 may have been a little pessimistic! We’ll keep praying for you guys and for full-blown revival in Burkina. – Dad

This is so exciting to see your faithfulness year after year to reach out in the name of Jesus to the children in Burkina Faso!

It is truly the LORD at work to keep growing the seed planting opportunities and to partner up with OCC – this Saturday (Sept. 15th) in St. Joseph, MO there will be a local “Count Down Event” to share with area churches and groups with sharing this type of testimony – which will really encourage them to pack more shoeboxes – to touch more children to hear the gospel! please join me to pray for this special event!
keep on blessing those around you – a little bit of love goes a long long way =D
